Alexis Chang
Alexis Chang, Conflict Resolution Education Program Coordinator
She/Her
As the Conflict Resolution Education (CRE) Program Coordinator, Alexis designs and curates a meaningful annual youth summit, known as the Peer Mediation Invitational. In addition, she oversees and manages WJC’s Volunteer and Internship Program. Over the course of her four years at WJC, PMI has grown to engage 500-600 students and more than 100 volunteers annually. These intergenerational relationships between volunteers and students provided valuable opportunities for youth to strengthen their mediation skills and learn from mentors.
Before joining WJC, Alexis worked with a nonprofit organization in San Luis Obispo County to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated youth and adults reintegrate back into the community. This work was centered on social and emotional learning programming in and out of custody designed to help participants develop greater self-awareness, empathy, and communication skills.Â
Alexis believes that when young people develop skills taught through WJC’s programs, it can have a lasting positive impact on their relationship and communities. She is committed to providing opportunities and spaces for youth to express themselves through leadership, art, and dialogue. She hopes that this will empower them to become compassionate and engaged changemakers in their schools and beyond.
Alexis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of California, Riverside (UCR).Â
Outside of work, Alexis loves to travel and spend time with her pup.
